Redefining Faith Through Feminism: Reflections on the impactful discussions at the National Symposium of the Women’s Education and Research Centre, held on November 24th and 25th at Ramada by Wyndham Colombo.
The Key Note Speaker of the symposium was Dr. Le Ngoc Bich Ly of the Department of Peace Studies at the Pyap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand
The symposium focused on redefining traditional interpretations of religious texts and practices through a feminist lens promoting a more inclusive, equal and empowering interpretation of faith. By championing diversity, we strive for a world where religious contexts uphold the rights and dignity of all genders. This initiative was carried out taking into consideration the crucial and influential role played by religion and religious institutions in shaping social norms and gendered aspects of society.
The research symposium was supported by Diakonia, Sri Lanka and we hope to further continue this process of creating spaces for dialogue and collective action to address gender inequalities.
