Training Women in Creative Writing Workshop (2008)


WERC conducted a one-day workshop on Training Women in Creative Writing on December, 05th 2008 with the aim of lobbying with journalists advocating for effective and neutral reporting in the media. The main objective of this workshop was to provide a platform for young women writers to express and share their experiences in an effective manner using their languages and writing skills.

The sessions followed by topics such as looking at the experience of the century from a new perspective (by Ms. Eva Ranaweera), the effective use of the language in making socio-cultural transformations (by Dr. Sunil Wijesiriwardena) and, fundamentals of writing an effective research papers (by Dr. Subhangi Herath). However, the planned last session on journalist as a change-maker was not held due to unavailability of the resource person.

As a step towards sensitizing and strengthening the capacities of the local authorities which work closely with the local communities, WERC  initiated this project in the Nuwara Eliya district with the support of Women Defining Peace (WDP) in February 2009.…
